The Crew

Captain Cristobal, from the island of Mamutupu, is the new captain of the Swala. As a member of the Guna people, his connection to the sea and the islands runs deep. At just 28 years old, he brings together a lifetime of experience in Guna Yala with several years sailing on charter boats. Fluent in the Guna language and well connected with the local communities, Cristobal ensures access to the freshest seafood and provides guests with an authentic island experience.

Lucia, 38 years old, from Argentina. A multifaceted artist.
I used to own a cultural resto-bar, where I combined my two passions: art and cooking.
This is my second year in San Blas, where I fell in love with life at sea. I enjoy welcoming and treating guests to delicious dishes made with love and dedication.
I have experience with seafood dishes, as well as gluten-free and vegetarian cuisine.

My husband and I just returned from an incredible three-day cruise through the San Blas Islands on the Chai. I can't recommend it enough! From the moment we set sail, the vibrant beauty of the islands and welcoming nature of the Kuna people took my breath away. The crew was friendly, attentive, and always ready to share their knowledge about the islands. Each day was filled with her delicious cooking, adventures, from snorkeling in crystal-clear waters to exploring the lush landscapes. Overall, this cruise was an unforgettable experience. If you're looking for a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, the Chai is the way to go.

Me and my sister booked a trip on the Chai since we heard so many amazing stories about sailing in the San blas islands. And we didn’t get disappointed, the whole crew made sure we had one of our best trips ever. Apart from having an amazing crew and group for the trip, we were served delicious food (we are vegan and got served the best vegan food we had during our whole time traveling in South America) and were taken to amazing places in the San Blas. Even though we didn’t have the best weather, our crew made sure we still get to see the best of the islands and we had a beautiful time with beautiful nature, great conversations and tons of fun. Thanks a lot again to the crew and the Chai, we can only recommend this trip to everyone! Extra info: the boat was pretty big, so we had enough space to store all our bags and access them at any time, plus it never felt crowded on the boat, perfect home for some days on the Caribbean :)

Jonathan and Lizz

We had the best time on the Chai and would 10/10 recommend to anyone. It was an experience I will never forget. Thanks so much to the crew for making it so great and for working so hard. We will be back for sure!!
